The problem: Council has been raising rates far above inflation. In 2025, rates revenue are up 6.96% while CPI is just 2.2%. Some small businesses are being hit with rates increases over 500%.

Why it matters (even if you don’t pay council rates): When rates go up, rents go up — and those costs get passed on to you. Expect to pay more for groceries, coffee, and everyday services as businesses scramble to survive.

My plan:

  • Review wasteful council spending.

  • Prioritise core services before launching new projects.

  • Ensure transparent, honest budgeting for all ratepayers.

The problem: Bike lane decisions and extended paid parking hours are causing traffic chaos. Dozens of street parks are being removed, and outdoor dining fees have tripled for local cafés.

Why it matters: When cafés and shops are hit with huge fee hikes — like $1,800 for a tiny outdoor space — they have to raise prices just to stay afloat. That means you pay more for meals, drinks, and daily life in the city.

My plan:

  • Eliminate unfair outdoor dining fees.

  • Stop street parking removals that hurt traders.

  • Bring back balance in transport planning.

The problem: Residents and businesses feel unsafe. Anti-social behaviour in precincts like Chinatown is on the rise.

My plan:

  • Boost police presence and local patrols.

  • Create safety plans for high-risk precincts.

  • Support mental health and community outreach initiatives.

The problem: Council decisions feel distant and overly bureaucratic. People want real input.

My plan:

  • Improve engagement with digital and in-person consultations.

  • Provide plain-English summaries of budgets and decisions.

  • Lead with transparency and respect.

The problem: Adelaide has huge potential, but poor leadership is holding it back.

My plan:

  • Activate streets with multicultural events and festivals.

  • Make Adelaide more liveable for young people.

  • Support housing and policies that keep talent here.
